CARES Act Seminar with Assemblyman Robert Karabinchak - 10/1/2020

Assemblyman Robert Karabinchak will be discussing The CARES Act on a Zoom seminar. The CARES Act provides fast and direct economic assistance for American workers, families, and small businesses affected by the 2020 coronavirus pandemic. 

Edison is to receive $884,324 in CARES Act Funding, Mayor Lankey will determine who gets the funds.

The CARES Act requires that the payments from the Coronavirus Relief Fund only be used to cover expenses that;
1. are necessary expenditures incurred due to the public health emergency with respect to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID–19);
2. were not accounted for in the budget most recently approved as of March 27, 2020 (the date of enactment of the CARES Act) for the State or government; and
3. were incurred during the period that begins on March 1, 2020, and ends on December 30, 2020


Eligible Expenditures:

  • Medical expenses related to COVID-19 such as; COVID-19 related expenses for hospitals, clinics, temporary treatment facilities, testing, transportation, telemedicine, etc.
  • Expenses associated with the provision of economic support such as; grants to small businesses to reimburse the costs of required closures, Government payroll support, unemployment insurance costs, small landlord grant programs, etc.
  • Public health expenses related to COVID-19 such as; communication and enforcement, distribution of supplies, disinfection and sanitation of public areas, public safety measures, etc.
  • Payroll expenses for public safety, public health, health care, human services, and similar employees whose services are substantially dedicated to mitigating or responding to the COVID- 19 public health emergency.
  • Expenses to facilitate compliance with COVID-19 such as; food delivery to residents and the vulnerable population, facilitate distance learning like technological improvements, improving telework capabilities, paid sick, family and medical leave to public employees, maintaining prisons, care for the homelessness, etc.
